Over 1.3 lakh claims filed in Dhubri dist for inclusion in NRC

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Jan 4 - In Dhubri district, where the names of as many as 1,40,488 persons have been excluded from the NRC final draft that was published on July 30, claims for inclusion of names of only 1,31,203 persons have been received by the authorities till the last day of filing of claims and objections.

NRC officials informed that claims for inclusion of these names have been received under 76,414 ARNs (Application Received Numbers). However, claims for inclusion of names of 9,285 people have not been received by the NRC officials. We cannot directly say that these people are not citizens of this nation. There may be other reasons such as lack of proper information about the last date of filing of claims and objections or the person concerned may have died and the family members did not find it necessary to file the claim, said one of the NRC officials.

Interestingly, many people claim that Dhubri district is a hub of illegal migrants and names of many non-Indians have been included in the final NRC draft. However, objections against only 1,707 people have been filed by various individuals and organisations. We will verify these objections and then we will finalise about their status, said an NRC official.

In South-Salmara Mankachar district, claims for inclusion of names of 31,134 persons have been received by the NRC officials under 18,683 ARNs, while objections against names of 4,600 members included in the NRC final draft have been received.
