Over 100 cr spent on train passenger amenities

GUWAHATI, July 3 - The Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway has spent over Rs 100 crore in augmenting passenger amenities during the last two financial years.

NF Railway officials said that during the past two years the zonal railway has undertaken various steps to develop passenger amenities. The total expenditure on passenger amenity works in the zone was Rs 44.70 crore in 2014-15 and Rs 55.61 crore in 2015-16.

�A total of 6,929 coaches have been augmented to clear extra rush of passengers. Besides, 102 coaches have been augmented in 38 trains on a permanent basis,� said an official.

He added that NF Railway has introduced onboard housekeeping in 40 trains and the �Clean My Coach App� has also been introduced in 40 trains.

�In addition, Wi-Fi connectivity has been provided at four stations. In two stations, milk booths have been opened,� he said.

In addition, foot overbridges have been commissioned in five railway stations during the previous two fiscals. In Guwahati and New Coochbehar stations, escalators have been installed.

�Platform shelters have been built in 38 stations to the extent of 6,100 square metres. Besides, three new station buildings have been constructed,� said the official.

Work has also been completed on raising the height of platforms at four railway stations and a reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plant has been set up at the Guwahati Railway Station. Washable aprons are being now provided at six stations in the zone.

�We have also enhanced the capacity of e-ticketing system from 2,000 tickets per minute to 7,200 tickets per minute and to support 1,20,000 concurrent users from 40,000 earlier during this period,� said the NFR official.

The rail zone has also increased the reserved accommodation capacity from 37.1 crore berths per annum to 44.7 berths per annum in the last two years.

During 2014-15 and 2015-16, the NF Railway has also Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at 11 locations and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) at 33 locations.

Besides, 13 new UTS-cum-PRS have also been opened in the zone.

�We have also introduced seven Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sewaks (JTBS) and 10 Station Ticket Booking Sewaks (STBS) in the zone during the last two fiscals,� said the official.
