Outside intervention in Bru issue opposed

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Sept 11 - Mizorams apex students body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, today took strong exception to the intervention of outsiders in the issue of Bru refugees, which is an internal matter of Mizoram.

In a statement, the MZP expressed strong disapproval of a group of people from Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra staging a demonstration in front of Mizoram Chief Ministers bungalow and submitting a memorandum to him on September 10, demanding repatriation of Bru refugees from Tripura to Mizoram.

Civil societies in Mizoram and the State Government have many times attempted to repatriate the Bru refugees but have failed so far. The Mizoram Government is currently making preparations for another repatriation of the refugees. The interference of this group of people is uncalled for. We would like to inform them to discontinue their interference in the Bru repatriation issue, the statement said.

About 100 people from Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh under the banner of Bharat Hitaraksha Abhiyan have been demanding immediate rehabilitation of the Bru refugees of Mizoram, who have been sheltered in six relief camps under the Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura since the last 22 years.

Activists of the Bharat Hitaraksha Abhiyan, a right wing organisation, on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Zoramthanga, demanding rehabilitation of all 32,800 Bru migrants in their homeland, Mizoram, with financial and other aids from the Government.
