TEZPUR, April 25 - At a time when the robbery and car-lifting cases have become a regular affair in Tezpur town, forcing locals here to pass sleepless nights for the last couple of weeks, by several organised gangs of thieves, an incident of snatching of gold ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh and cash of Rs 20,000 at around 9.30 pm on Saturday from one local goldsmith, created panic in the area.
The goldsmith, identified as Babul Sarkar of Garwanpatti, was just entering his home after closing his shop at Mission Chariali, when the burglars snatched his bag of gold ornaments and the money.
Soon after the incident, he lodged a complaint with the police, but the police allegedly have not taken any initiative to arrest the suspects.
