Orissa beat Assam

GUWAHATI, July 25 - Orissa Cricket Association defeated Assam Cricket Association by six wickets in the Dr Capt K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament, organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

On the final day of the four-day match, played at the Aditya Global (T), Bangalore today, requiring 91 for an out right victory in the second innings, Orissa reached the target in 14.3 overs losing four wickets.

The tournament, played in Ranji Trophy format, is counted as an exposure tour prior to the Ranji season. It was the first match for both the teams.

Assam 1st Innings: 133.

Orissa 1st Innings: 275.

Assam 2nd Innings: 232 (Amit Verma 94, Gokul Sharma 65, Suryakant Pradhan 56/7, Alok Chandra Sahoo 54/2).

Orissa 2nd Innings: 91/4 (Biplab Samantray 28 n.o, Girija Rout 26 n.o, Krishna Das 36/2).
