Orijit enters quarters in Asian jr badminton

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 � Assam boy Orijit Chaliha entered the quarterfinal stage of the SCG Badminton Asia Junior U-17 and U-15 Championship which is going on in Yannawa, Thailand.

According to information received here, Orijit yesterday beat Nakayana Hiroki of Japan 21-6, 21-18 in the first round and in the second round he defeated local boy S Phamewat 21-15, 14-21, 21-15. Today in the pre-quarterfinal match, Orijit trounced Suwarno Karono of Indonesia 21-14, 21-16.

In quarterfinal he will meet Chia Wei Jie of Malaysia. Another Assam boy, Pragyan Gogoi and his partner Dhruv Kapila of Punjab, entered the quarterfinals in U-15 doubles defeating the Thailand pair. Both the Assam players are representing the Indian team in U-15 category.
