Original Indian citizens being harassed in the name of NRC

By ANN Service

GORESWAR, May 10 - The Tamulpur district unit of ABMSU has alleged that certain organisations have levelled false allegations against many people from the religious minority community included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with the sole objective of mentally and physically harassing as well as hounding the povertystricken genuine citizens.

In a press release issued by the Tamulpur unit of ABMSU, it said that the religious minority people are being harassed in the name of NRC, which is quite unfortunate and uncalled for.

Some persons associated with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) have been trying to misguide and disrupt the ongoing NRC process by filing false objections.

Along with the rest of Assam, in Tamulpur too they have made baseless objections against the retired servicemen and eminent persons of the society. It is seen that the person who made objections against the genuine citizens are not present in the NRC centre during the hearing process, the press release stated.

The ABMSU unit therefore wanted to know the stand of AASU in this regard and sought proof along with necessary records if the names of foreigners were included in the final draft of NRC.

The students organisation also submitted a memorandum to the Baksa district DRCR, higher authority of NRC in this regard.
