Orientation programme held at USTM

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - The second orientation programme of the �I Can I Will Academy� of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya was held at its campus in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya today.

A total of 23 students of the university�s flexible courses participated in the programme, which was addressed by USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and director of administration, Dr Balendra K Das, , a press release stated. The programme was followed by counselling.

The university is offering flexible courses to those seeking excellence in the fields of sports and culture as well as to differently abled persons who find it different to attend regular classes.

Students with varied educational qualifications � from 10th pass to postgraduates � are pursuing higher education and skill development courses in the university free of cost.

Addressing the students, Hoque said, �Students who excel in sports or cultural arena need not go for the regular courses, which are meant for general students. They can choose a flexible and relevant course.�

He said the flexible courses were designed keeping in mind the needs of these special categories of students as well as the importance of skill education to improve employability. The university�s �I Can I Will Academy� offers flexible curriculum and examination system for differently abled persons.

Anyatam Rajkumar, a swimmer with Down Syndrome who won gold at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in the USA, has taken admission in one of the flexible courses of the university.
