Orang opened for tourists

MANGALDAI, Oct 26 - State Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Saturday opened the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve for the tourist season 2019-20.

The Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve in Darrang district, the natural habitat of more than 100 one-horned rhinos and 24 Royal Bengal tigers besides a wide range of flora and fauna, was opened for tourists and visitors by the Forest Minister in the presence of Mangaldai MP Dilip Saikia and MLA Gurujyoti Das, apart from officials and staff of the Forest Department, students and other local people.

Talking to the media, Suklabaidya stressed on the development of the flood-hit road communications inside the Park to woo the visitors. He also announced the target of the domestic and foreign tourists to the Park in the new tourism year as 10,000. However on the inaugural day the media could not spot a single tourist. Earlier, the Park authorities in a notification had announced November 1 next as the date for reopening of the Park.
