Oram gives boost to NPP campaign

By Biplab Kr Dey

TURA, May 11 - National Peoples Party (NPP)s Conrad Sangmas campaign to the Tura Lok Sabha seat bypoll got a boost today with Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram made a maiden visit to Garo Hills to campaign for him.

Jual recalled his association with former Speaker late Purno A Sangma at an election rally in Gokol, near Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills today. He termed the election a tribute to Purno, whom he said was his political guru.

I am very happy to be here in Garo Hills. He guided me when I was elected to the Parliament for the first time. It is a great opportunity for me that I am here to campaign for Sangmajis son, Conrad, said Oram.

He said that if Conrad is elected to the parliament, he will raise the voice of Garo Hills and the Northeastern region and ensure that development reaches here.

Oram elaborated on Prime Minister Narendra Modis attention to NE, saying NDA Government has a vision for NE and Conrad will be able to highlight the needs of the people.

Jual lambasted the Congress saying that the party was trying to hypnotise the people of Garo Hills by propagating false accusations against BJP and resorting to money power. I am a tribal and I come from a region where Hindus and Christians live together in peace and harmony. Prime Minister is very clear about the agenda of development. But Congress is trying to create confusion as they have nothing to talk, he said.

Oram urged the people of Garo Hills to cast vote for book, NPPs party symbol.

Kohli urged the electorates to send a message to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma that those who work for development only will get votes.

Modiji and Oramji had been very generous to allot Rs 200 crore for GHADC. The NDA Government has shown keen interest to work with Councils in the region and extend all help for the benefit of the tribal people, Conrad said.
