GUWAHATI, July 17 - Accusing the ULFA(I) of being involved in the killing of the father-daughter duo at Phillobari Bijulibon in Tinsukia district earlier this week, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that operations against terrorist groups will be intensified across the State.
No doubt ULFA(I) is behind the act. We can confirm it. It is an act of cowardice. It is inhuman to kill innocents. We have decided to intensify operations against ULFA(I) and other terrorist outfits, the Chief Minister said at a press conference in the State Secretariat.
He said police has identified the terrorists responsible for the attack, which led to the death of one Nandalal Shah and his daughter Kajal, and have already nabbed two ULFA(I) linkmen.
The State Police DGP and senior officials have gone to Tinsukia. We will go all out to ensure that all the perpetrators of the heinous crime are apprehended, he added.
Gogoi said he has spoken to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over phone and requested deployment of additional forces.
Rajnath Singh has agreed to provide additional forces so that we can go against the terrorists in a big way, he said.
Regarding protests in Tinsukia against the killings and resultant police action against the protesters, Gogoi said, There is bound to be some resentment as innocent persons have been killed. However, police had to use some force to disperse the protesters when their agitation turned violent.
