Opposition to push for action against guilty

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 The Opposition parties today decided to submit memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister and the State Governor demanding action against those responsible for misappropriation of funds including the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the ministers concerned. On the other hand, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided to launch a movement demanding resignation of the Chief Minister.

The legislature parties of AGP, BJP, CPI, CPM and AUDF met in the State Assembly Secretariat to discuss the issue of the special audit of the accounts of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council by the Office of the Accountant General (AG) and decided that action must be taken against those responsible for the misappropriation of funds.

Talking to The Assam Tribune after the meeting, Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that the parties would soon send memorandum to the President, Prime Minister and Governor demanding action against those responsible. He said that as the AG report clearly pointed out that huge amount of money in excess of the Budget provisions was sent to the Council and being the Minister in charge of the Finance Department, the Chief Minister cannot escape his responsibility.

The meeting further observed that as per the report of the Justice Manisana Singh Commission, funds were sent directly to the Council by different departments in violation of a Cabinet decision. He said that any one who violates a Cabinet decision should be either dropped or he should resign, but no action was taken against anyone who violated Cabinet decisions.
