By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Feb 25 Opposition AGP, BJP and AUDF have decided to field a common candidate for the second Rajya Sabha seat. This was disclosed by AUDF president Badruddin Ajmal.

Ajmal told The Assam Tribune that in the large interest of opposition unity, they have decided to foil the Congress design to corner both the RS seats. Now efforts are on to find a neutral candidate who will be acceptable to all the parties, he said.

According to sources here, the BJP has proposed the name of senior journalist DN Bezboruah as common candidate, while the AGP has recommended the names of Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr Aruna Kumar Sharma and Hiten Goswami.

A senior Congress leader today said that in case the opposition puts up a common candidate, the Congress would field a single candidate. The name of Dr Pervez Ahmed, son of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed is doing the rounds as the probable Congress candidate.
