Opp parties trying to create unrest, spreading misinformation: Tasa

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Oct 10 - Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, has alleged that Opposition political parties were spreading misinformation about the two farm Acts recently passed in the Parliament that were meant to benefit the farmers.

Speaking to newspersons at Jorhat district unit BJP office here on Saturday, Tasa charged the Opposition parties of spreading false information regarding the two farm Acts that were passed in the both Houses of the Parliament last month following which there has been countrywide protests including Assam by farmers, political parties and various organisations opposing the said Acts.

It may be mentioned here that massive protests erupted after the said Acts were termed as anti-farmers by farmers, Opposition parties and other organisations with protesters coming to the streets in large numbers and also Shiromani Akali Dal, a key partner of NDA walking out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre.

Tasa while claiming that the two Acts Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill were pro-farmers and would benefit the farmers a lot, said that Opposition parties were spreading misinformation about the Acts.

Those parties, now opposing the Acts, always talked about farmers, but never did anything (read brought no laws) for their (farmers) benefit while being in power. Our government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought in laws that will actually benefit the farmers, Tasa observed.

Stating that the new laws will do away all the bottlenecks that the farmers used to face in selling their produce before enactment of the laws, Tasa said that following passing of the Acts in the Parliament the farmers will be enable to openly carry out trade of agricultural products.

Terming the new farm laws will boost the farmers, the Rajya Sabha MP said that they (farmers) will not only be gainful, but will contribute to making of an Atmanirbhahil Bharat.

He also said that the news farm laws will also not allow operating of any kind of syndicates in the agricultural products trade. He alleged that Opposition parties were worried about doing away with prevailing system of syndicates operating in different agricultural trade.

Indicating a nexus between the Opposition parties and the syndicates, Tasa said the parties (Opposition) were feeling discomfort fearing that they were going to lose after enactment of the new farm laws as syndicates will not be able to flourish.

He further charged the Opposition parties of trying to create unrest across the country including Assam by staging protest against the passing of the farm Acts by the Parliament.

Tasa said he and his party disapprove and condemn thinking and action of Opposition parties in this regard (trying to foment unrest).

Replying to a question, Tasa said that farmers of Assam too will benefit largely from the new farm laws as produces like Joha and Bora rice, lemons, guti aloo etc., could be now sold directly by farmers outside the State as the syndicate and vested lobbies in the sector will cease to operate with passing of the laws.
