GUWAHATI, Oct 20 - Criticizing the BJP-led State government over the recent clash along the Assam-Mizoram border, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora today termed the incident as one of the biggest failures of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
Addressing a joint press conference of opposition parties of Assam at the Gauhati Press Club, Bora said, �The recent incidents along the Assam-Mizoram border proved that the NEDA has failed to maintain a synergy among all the states of Northeast.�
Bora alleged that the State home department totally failed to provide safeguard to its citizens and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is also holding the Home portfolio.
Along with Bora, leadership of Anchalik Gana Marcha, CPM, CPI, CPI (ML) and AIUDF also shared the dais at the press conference. Bora also demanded withdrawal of the recent notice issued by the State Coordinator of NRC Hitesh Dev Sarma to all Deputy Commissioners, in which he had asked the DCs to identify persons who fall under categories of �declared foreigner�, �doubtful voter� and �pending in Foreigners� Tribunal� residing in their respective territories in order to exclude these names from the final NRC list.
According to Bora, the recent notification is politically motivated. He said that as the NRC process is going on under the supervision of the Supreme Court, such notification, if at all necessary, should have to come through the apex court. He slammed the government for not making the �cause of exclusion� known to those who had been left out from the final list of NRC.
�Actually, the BJP wants to keep the NRC issue alive, so that it can be used as a poll plank in the next election as well. Due to such an attitude of the ruling party, at present around 19 lakh people, whose names were excluded from the NRC, are living an uncertain life,� Bora rued.
Addressing the mediapersons, Rajya Sabha MP and Anchalik Gana Marcha leader Ajit Kumar Bhuyan alleged that the BJP is resorting to communal politics by terming the religious minority people as the traitors of society.� �����
�At any cost, we will have to stop the conspiracy of the BJP, for which all opposition forces need to unite on a common platform. Moreover, we should also prevent any kind of anti-indigenous initiative of the government,� Bhuyan said.
AIUDF leader Aminul Islam, too, alleged that the BJP-led government is doing religion-centric politics in the name of illegal foreigners in the State. He said that the BJP is violating the Constitution of India in various ways.
On the other hand, citing various irregularities that took place during the implementation of various schemes and recruitment processes, Ripun Bora alleged that scams to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore have taken place during the tenure of this government.
He said that the irregularities took place mostly during the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), scholarship scheme for minority students, Pradhan Mantri KIsan SAmman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN), etc.��
Bora demanded a judicial inquiry into all such �anomalies and gross misappropriation� of public money. CPI(ML)-Liberation leader Bibek Das, CPI leader Munin Mahanta and CPM leader Deben Bhattacharya also criticized the government and vouched for staging a united fight against the ruling party.
