GUWAHATI, Aug 21 - Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia today launched a multi-pronged attack on the ruling BJP government, alleging gross failure on various fronts.
Daring the Chief Minister to institute a probe into the reports of deaths of patients due to medical negligence in the State during the COVID-19 pandemic, Saikia said several such reports of patients being denied treatment have surfaced in the social media, showing the health infrastructure in poor light. Saikia also alleged that certain elite sections associated with the ruling party have been violating COVID protocols, and questioned how BJP MLA Bhaskar Sarma who had tested positive for the virus was allowed to travel to Guwahati in his private vehicle.
He alleged that while the GDP was going down, unemployment problem aggravating and people not able to go back to their normal lives after the lockdown, the State government was looking the other way.
In fact, by creating unnecessary controversies like who would be an efficient Chief Minister, the BJP government was trying to divert the attention of the people from the actual issues afflicting the people. It is not clear as to how the government is tackling the situation arising out of the pandemic and the lockdown, he said.
Saikia further said if the BJP feels the present Chief Minister is not efficient they should analyze the report cards of the MLAs and reinstate a better person in his place.
The Opposition leader also criticised the government for failing to spend the budgetary allocations. In the last fiscal, the expenditure was a mere 67 per cent, despite the government passing supplementary demands over and above the actual budgetary allocations. We have also observed that the money is being spent by the government to hoodwink the people and not for ushering in real development, he added.
