AGARTALA, Aug 25 � The Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath today demanded emergency audit of the Tripura government�s account on the plea that it was falsely projecting that the State was facing fund crunch due to �exploitation� by the 13th Finance Commission.
�It is a glib version that the 13th Finance Commission had exploited the State and did not allocate adequate fund which is often alleged by the Finance Minister, Badal Chowdhury but the reality is that the commission even gave more allocation than the 12th Finance Commission,� he told reporters.
Citing an example, Nath said the 12th Finance Commission had allocated Rs 49 crore in �State specific needs� sector but the 13th Finance Commission in the same sector has allocated Rs 500 crore for the State and added �it is just an example, the 13th Finance Commission increased allocation in all sectors.�
He alleged that the Centre was eager to allocate funds to the State government for giving salaries to the State employees at par with the 6th Pay Commission recommendations but the State government was not willing to give high salaries to their employees.
The Leader of the Opposition stated that he has 26 authentic documents showing that the state Finance department had given advance payment of over Rs 212 crores for the years 2012-13 and 2013-14 in different sectors which is completely illegal and a bad instance of financial irregularity.
�The Assembly election in the state is due in 2013 and without the sanction from the State Assembly, how government releases advance funds must be audited,� he stated. � PTI
