NEW DELHI, Aug 3 � After normalcy was restored in Parliament following two days of disruptions, the Opposition today targeted the government over rising prices and incidents of terrorism, in the backdrop of the recent Mumbai blasts, reports PTI.
The Lok Sabha took up a discussion on price rise under a rule that entails voting, a day after a compromise was reached between the government and the Opposition on the format of the debate. During the debate, the Opposition slammed the government for failing to control rising prices despite repeatedly assuring the House that steps would be taken in this regard.
Leading the attack, former finance minister and BJP leader Yashwant Sinha contended that the situation had become unbearable for common people and reached a stage where the government has to be told to �Go, for god�s sake, go�.
Initiating the debate, he pointed out that a discussion on the issue was taking place for the 12th time and slammed the government�s argument that high growth will entail inflation, saying such a growth was not acceptable to people.
The government, on its part, fielded Law Minister Salman Khurshid to defend itself.
He attributed high inflation to increasing prices of crude oil in the international market. The government had taken a number of fiscal measures like reducing import duties, suspended futures trading in rice and certain pulses to rein in prices, he said.
The Rajya Sabha saw a discussion on terrorism in the wake of July 13 serial blasts in Mumbai.
