Only regionalism can solve local issues: Bora

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 17 - The president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora on Monday said that only regionalism can solve the issues affecting Assam under the existing political climate and that the people of the State were once again increasingly getting attracted to the ideology of regionalism.

Bora was speaking at an event at the Asom Gana Parishads headquarters here, during which some Congress party members as well as others formally joined the regional party.

Those who joined the party on Monday included Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) secretary Kishore Hazarika, AASUs former central committee member Chandan Haloi, and around 100 others from various walks of life.

Bora called upon everyone to strengthen the AGP and said that the regional party was the only force which can work for protection of the rights of all the indigenous communities of Assam.

Speaking on the occasion, Hazarika said that national parties have failed to address the problems affecting Assam and regionalism was the only viable alternative.

AGP general secretary Dr Kamala Kalita, MLA Pabindra Deka and other senior leaders of the party were also present at the event.
