RAHA, Sept 23 - Taking out a party rally at Raha recently, State Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Rakibul Hussain said, �Only the Congress is capable of providing the people a good governance in Assam. There is no alternative to the ruling party.�
Hussain said that neither the BJP nor the AIUDF or AGP has the strength to uplift the State on agriculture, power, panchayat and rural development fronts.
Organised by the Raha Block Congress Committee in association with Kothiatali Block Congress, the rally pulled huge crowd after Raha MLA Piyush Hazarika confirmed his decision to join the BJP.
More than 5,000 Congress workers participated in the rally and raised voiced against Piyush Hazarika terming him an opportunist politician.
Hussain asked everyone to vote for the Congress in the next Assembly elections in 2016 to witness the change the party could bring in the rural sector.
�The Congress is seeking votes based on its development track record, but the BJP, AIUDF and AGP are playing the politics of division on religious lines. The Congress is devoted to the wellbeing of the people of the State, irrespective of caste, creed or religion,� he said.
