Only benevolent people are truly spiritual: Dr Malini

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - Asam Sahitya Sabhas Mumbai chapter organised a unique discussion with renowned scientist, an eminent epic and fiction writer of contemporary India, Dr Neelima Saikia (pen name Dr Malini). With her vast knowledge of Indian epics and mythology, Dr Saikia kept the online audience spellbound.

In the beginning, Mumbai Sahitya Sabhas secretary, Deepankar Borgohain cordially greeted Dr Malini while the president, Suraiya Jahan too warmly greeting Dr Saikia and the online viewers explained her contribution towards the Assamese literary world. The programme was anchored by Karabi Acharjya.

In the beginning of her speech, Dr Saikia while expressing her thanks to Mumbai Sahitya Sabha for inviting her to interact with others said, A discussion on the epics is vast and never-ending. Although, both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are mythological epics, included in both of these are stories of art, literature, culture, ethnicity and those relating to the human society and its members. The main purpose of the epics is to cleanse the society of atrocities, oppression and persecution. Moreover, knowledge is based not only on religion, but on humanity, integrity and devotion too which are the basis of real spiritual knowledge. Those, who are involved in benevolence, helping others, they are the only true spiritual persons... we have learned from the epics that, without a pure mind, no one can achieve anything substantial and that without proper study, no one can become knowledgeable.

Todays generation is more attracted to new-found technology, so it easily finds the objects of its search, but it should also know that the easy path to success is not the permanent path. There are always two sides to a coin good or bad. Our new generation is addicted to the newly found easy access, hence our society has became unruly!, she said.

It may be mentioned that Dr Saikia founded the Epic Study Centre at Jorhat to teach the people the basic qualities of life and truth, such as how to be devoted to our forefathers and how brotherhood is an essential element of our life. Even, our Constitution was written based on these two epics! she said.

The secretary of the Mumbai Sahitya Sabha, Deepankar Borgohain gave the vote of thanks.
