GUWAHATI, March 3 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in a notification today said that the online registration of pet dogs will be available in the GMC portal shortly.
In the notification the GMC requested the pet owners of the city to strictly follow the guidelines of the GMC Act, stating that it is mandatory to register domestic dogs, denying or failing which is a punishable offence.
The minimum age for registration is three months. Dog owners have to pay a fee of Rs 210 for registration, for which they have to visit the Veterinary Branch of Guwahati Municipal Corporation at Lakhtokia, the notification stated adding online registration will be available in the GMC portal shortly.
After registration, the GMC will provide a metal colar for the dog along with the registration letter. Registration should be renewed annually. Along with the leather neck colar, the registered number (metal colar) should be hanged around the neck of the dog.
If pet owners register their dogs outside the Guwahati Municipal Corporation office, they have to pay Rs 50 as service charge, totalling Rs 260, the notification stated.
Pet owners are advised to ensure that their pets are healthy and clean, it added.
�Adequate health care and timely vaccination need to be ensured. Pet owners should keep their dogs in a way that does not affect the neighbours and roadside public. Pet owners will also restrict their pet movement within their premises.
They should not be left free in public areas. Pet owners should not allow their pets to defecate in public premises,� the notification said.
