By Correspondent

AGARTALA, June 9 The ONGC Director UN Bose along with high officials had reviewed the activities of the state-own oil giant, official sources on Thursday.

Tripura Asset Manager K Narayanana briefed him about the performance of the ONGC and its future plan to active target in gas supply. The ONGC Tripura Asset has already set a target to produce 6 million MMSCD gas by 2012 next.

To achieve the target, the oil giant has already initiated massive exploration drive few years back. Two more rigs will be inducted in the ONGCs massive exploration drive very shortly. In the last year, the ONGC had discovered two major gas wells giving a major input to the mission.

The main objective of the Mission six million MMSCD gas is to ensure supply of gas for the proposed mega power plant at Palatana floated by OTPC. The first unit of 726 MW power plant is scheduled to get functional by end of this year though there is a doubt after the mishap in which the mammoth turbine slipped off at Longthungcherra in West Tripura district. Besides, the ONGC is also committed to supply gas to the proposed 104 MW Monarchak power plant as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had already been inked. The NEEPCO has also secured nod from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to go ahead with the power plant.

Bose also visited Palatana project site to know the progress of the civil works. Reports said, the civil construction at Palatana has made good progress but the mishap casts a shadow over the timely completion of the first unit of mega power project. However, the OTPC, a subsidiary company of the oil-giant is hopeful of executing the first phase of the power project by end of this year.
