One tests COVID-19 positive in Juria, Nagaon

NAGAON, May 18 - A returnee from Chennai on May 15 was tested COVID-19 positive today. The youth has been identified as Azizul Haque Rahman (20) of Sutorupahi in Nagaon. Azizul was quarantined in Juria town Kadamoni High School camp since May 16. He was immediately shifted to Guwahati-based Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital.

According to sources, the youth who was working in a restaurant situated at Locofeast restaurant in Chennai and reached Guwahati on May 15 late night. He was brought to Nagaon Nehrubali field in the wee hours on Saturday last from where he was shifted to the quarantine centre set up at Juria�s Kadamoni High School after collection of his swab samples.

When his test report was confirmed this morning by JMCH laboratory, the senior district medical officers, officials of the district administration as well as other senior police officials rushed to the quarantine and referred him to Guwahati MMC hospital without any delay.

Meanwhile, some hundreds of people of greater Juria market area went out and crowded the market of Juria to have a look at the patient in the quarantine centre for which police had to finaly resort to lathicharge to disperse them. This incident has intensified the fear among people for fast transmission of COVID-19 pandemic in the district.
