One sentenced to life in Jorhat

By Correspondent

JORHAT, June 19 The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge here on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment a youth who was found guilty of committing a murder at Teok in December, 2012.

Along with the convict Diganta Barua, another accused Dipu Saikia was charged by police in connection with the killing of one Achinta Barua.

But Dipu got an acquittal as his involvement in the crime could not be established by the prosecution, said advocate Rintu Goswami, who argued for Dipu Saikia.

It may be mentioned that the victim Achinta Barua was found dead at Teok in December, 2012 after he had accompanied the accused youths to buy a motorcycle. The complainant of the case alleged that the victim was killed by the youths after robbing him of his money that he had brought for purchasing the motorcycle from Teok.

On the basis of a complaint, the police nabbed both the accused and later charged them under Section 395 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code. As the circumstantial evidence could establish Digantas involvement in the murder, the court sentenced him to life-imprisonment.
