MANGALDAI, March 29 - The court of District and Session Judge, Darrang, G Baruah on Monday sentenced one Billal Hussain of village Khokjani under Kharupetia Police Station to rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. The verdict directed another six months rigorous imprisonment on failure to repay the fine. The court, as stated in its verdict, found Billal guilty in the organised murder of one Muslim Ali (22), s/o Hormuj Ali of the same village in broad daylight on January 4, 2014 attacking with a sharp weapon when the victim was on his way to the local bazaar from his residence.
The victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on the very date. The father of the victim then lodged an FIR in Kharupetia PS against Billal Hussain, s/o Late Chan Miya Sheikh, Ainul Haque and Ali Hussain. Police registered a case (No. 8/14 U/S 120(B) /302 / 34 IPC ) and arrested the accused persons but submitted chargesheet only against Billal Hussain due to lack of sufficient evidence against the other two accused. The court observed that the accused person committed murder without any fault of the deceased, only because the father of the deceased Hormuj Ali stood as a witness regarding a loan taken by the accused Billal in a local �Raij Mel�.
