One more virus death in Tripura

AGARTALA, July 22 - Tripura recorded yet another COVID-19 fatality after a patient died at the GB Pant Hospital on Tuesday, taking the virus death toll in the State to eight. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed this in a Facebook update.

Meanwhile, 254 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the past 24 hours after tests on 5,185 samples throughout the state. With the latest infections, the Tripura COVID-19 tally has risen to 3,098, including 1,025 active cases. Altogether 81 COVID-19 patients have been released from various COVID Care Centres. With regard to the new positive cases, West district is the worst affected with 65 cases, followed by North (48) and Gomati (36).

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Bagma, Rampada Jamatia, his wife and two PSOs have been found to be infected by the novel coronavirus. �They have taken to COVID Care Centres and specialist doctors are taking care of them. I hope they will get well soon,� Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said in another Facebook post today.

Sources said Jamatia, who hails from Atharabhola area in Gomati district, had been touring the State since the last few months as he was assigned to oversee the Janajati Morcha�s activities.

A total of 1,11,352 swabs have been collected and tests have been carried out on 1,10,111 samples during the past 24 hours.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb held a meeting with his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the state. Deb and BJP State president Dr Manik Saha also held a meeting with party MLAs and workers at the BJP headquarters here today.
