One more dies of COVID-19 in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 29 - With the death of a 51-year-old man, the death toll due to COVID-19 and comorbid health conditions in Manipur rose to 65 on Tuesday.

Confirming this, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director of the Manipur Health Department, in a press release on Tuesday, said, �In the last 24 hours, one male aged 51 years from Imphal East expired at the JNIMS. The cumulative number of deaths is 65.�

Informing that 231 civilians and 38 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel were confirmed positive, the release said that the positive cases were detected at 26 testing facilities including those at the RIMS and the JNIMS.

The new COVID-19 positive civilians are from Imphal West (53), Imphal East (44), Tengnoupal (9), Ukhrul (1), Tamenglong (40), Kangpokpi (2), Kajong (7), Noney (15), Kakching (2), Jiribam (4), Bishnupur (2), Senapati (1), Churachandpur (2) and Thoubal (49) districts, it added.

Four civilians are returnees from other States and the rest are local residents without any significant travel history, the release added.

In the past 24 hours, 57 persons were also discharged from the RIMS, JNIMS and four other COVID care facilities.

The total number of positive cases in Manipur stands at 10,746, including 2,268 CAPF personnel, while the cumulative number of discharged cases is 8,039, the release stated. The number of active cases is 2,642, including 520 CAPF personnel. The recovery rate in the State is 74.80 per cent.

As of Tuesday, 3,83,669 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 2,38,516 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres, official sources said.
