AGARTALA, Aug 20 - Tripura recorded one more COVID-19 death, while 190 more positive cases were confirmed during the past 24 hours.
The State�s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 65 and the total positive cases swelled to 7,835 on Wednesday. As many as 5,640 patients have also recovered, while 2,124 patients are undergoing treatment.
Among the 190 new cases, 52 were detected in West Tripura district and 38 were confirmed at the IGM, GB Pant Hospital and the Tripura Medical College.
Nine Health Department officials, including some doctors and other clerical staff posted at the Directorate of Health Services, have also tested positive. A contact tracing drive has been initiated to contain the spread of the infection. The total containment zones of the State have come down to 115 from 128.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath today said that Tripura is in a better position in the battle against the pandemic compared to other States.
Speaking to media persons at the Civil Secretariat here, Nath said the State�s positivity rate still stands at 3.38 per cent, whereas the national figure is 8.70 per cent. The recovery rate in the State is 72 per cent. The mortality rate is less than one per cent, while the national average is 1.90 per cent.
The minister said that doctors, nurses and other staff have been doing an excellent job despite resource constraints, to contain the virus.
