One more COVID death in Mizoram

AIZAWL, Nov 15 - Mizoram today reported its fourth COVID-19 fatality as a 34-year-old physiotherapist succumbed to the viral infection at 11:30 pm on Saturday, an official source said.

R Lalnuntluanga, a resident of Durtlang locality in Aizawl, died at Zoram Medical College, Aizawl, where he was admitted since October 27.

Family sources said Lalnuntluanga had diarrhea from October 18, which is known to be the first sign of coronavirus infection in some symptomatic patients. After he recovered from diarrhea, he complained of toothache a few days later.

�As his toothache began to improve, he went into a coma on October 27. He was rushed to Synod Hospital, Durtlang where he worked. As it was confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus, he was admitted to Zoram Medical College,� they said.

During his treatment, it was later discovered that he had a severe diabetes and pneumonia. His family said he was not known to have such underlying health conditions before.

Lalnuntluanga�s two-year-old daughter has also been infected with the virus and his wife, two-month-old pregnant, is with her in the hospital, sources said.

Meanwhile, Mizoram today reported 25 fresh infections, taking the state�s tally to 3,393.

An official statement said the 25 new cases were reported from 577 samples tested during the last 24 hours. Of the new patients, 21 were reported from Aizawl district, two from Lawngtlai district, and one each from Serchhip and Lunglei districts.

The new patients included 36 personnel of Indian Reserve Police who returned to Mizoram from Bihar elections duty. Nine of the new patients have travel history.

Mizoram currently has 569 active cases while 2,820 patients have recovered from the disease so far and four have succumbed to it.
