One more COVID-19 death in State

GUWAHATI, June 18 - Another COVID-19 related death was reported in the State, thereby taking the total number of deaths to nine. Sanjay Khaklary (22) passed away late last night at the Covid Care Hospital at Diphu and is the second case of COVID-19 death in Karbi Anglong.

Significantly, 25 positive cases were detected in Misamari military camp today, while 37 persons tested positive for COVID 19 in Kamrup (Metro).

Overall, the State today recorded another 210 fresh COVID-19 positive cases, including 22 from Baksa, 14 from Karbi Anglong, 14 from Hailakandi, 13 from Karimganj, eight from Tezpur, and 11 from Chirang.

The other districts where new positive cases were reported today are Dibrugarh (9), Dhubri (7), Udalguri (6) Golaghat (6), Sivasagar (2), Nagaon (15), Cachar (3), Majuli (3), Sonitpur (2) Barpeta (2), Lakhimpur (3) and one each in Biswanath, Nalbari, Charaideo, Golaghat, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar and Dhemaji.

The total count of the infected patients in the State stands at 4,904. So far, 2,848 patients have been discharged from various hospitals across the State, of which 12 of them were discharged late last night. The number of active patients is 2,044.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that over 11,000 COVID-19 tests were done today, with the total testing figures reaching 2,46,590.

Random testing of swabs in Guwahati has been intensified in all the vulnerable areas. Further, all the 12 testing labs in the capital city saw people coming and getting their swabs tested.

Our Diphu Correspondent adds: According to reports, a 22-year-old youth identified as Sanjay Khakhlary died of covid-19 at the Covid Care Hospital in Diphu.

A resident of Beltola village at Langhin under Dokmoka Police Station, he had returned from Chennai by flight on June 16 and was in the institutional quarantine centre set up at Sunpura, Bakaliaghat.

Khaklary was admitted at the Diphu Covid Care Hospital as soon as he complained of chest pain and breathing difficulties on Wednesday morning. He passed away last night.

His body was buried today morning in the presence of police and district representatives of the administration at his native Beltola village at Langhin as per COVID-19 pandemic norms.
