KOKRAJHAR, April 6 One person was killed, while six others were injured in poll-related violence at Haltugaon in Kokrajhar district last night.

The victim has been identified as Dilip Boro of East Dobinjhora village.

Boro, an ex-BLT member, was a supporter of the Bodoland Peoples Front.

Sources said that a group of unidentified miscreants attacked the Aluparam Youth BPF camp situated at Haltugaon last night around 9 pm.

The injured persons have been identified as Bisombar Brahma, Samarendra Narzary, Amal Chandra Basumatary, Ratan Narzary, Swmkhwr Rabha and Daoharu Brahma. The police have so far arrested 22 persons in connection with the incident.

According to a BPF supporter, a group of about 50 people armed with sharp weapons, vandalised the camp, besides attacking the BPF supporters, killing Dilip Boro on the spot.

BPF president Hagrama Mohilary while condemning the incident, blamed the PCDR for the attack. He appealed to the administration to arrest chief co-ordinator of PCDR Rwngwra Narzary and ABSU president Pramod Boro for allegedly sponsoring the incident.

Meanwhile, ABSU general secretary Lorence Islary rejected Mohilarys charge. He said it was a mob that had attacked the camp and not PCDR members.

Islary also urged the administration to release their supporters unconditionally and investigate the incident so that the culprits can be brought to book.
