One killed in KPLT firing

KOHORA, Aug 13 � Sensation prevailed in Kaziranga and Bokakhat town following the indiscriminate firing by suspected KPLT militants coming from Karbi Anglong at Panbari near Bokakhat around 4 am today.

According to sources, the firing, which lasted for more than one and half hour, resulted in the death of a truck driver Nanda Mahato, besides injuring several persons, including Ranjit Changmai, vice-president of central committee of AJYCP, Abidur Ali, from regional samiti of Sibsagar AJYCP and Diganta Gogoi. Changmai and Ali are undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

The other injured, viz. Palash Changmai, Brahmadev Jadav, Gyan Singh, Paramdev Jadav, Monoj Jadav and Kamaleshwar Choudhary are being treated at Bokakhat Civil Hospital.

Senior civil and police officials rushed to the spot and a massive combing operation was launched jointly by police and CRPF in the said area to nab the culprits. Police had picked up about 11 persons from the spot for investigation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat NM Hussain, who visited the victims in the hospital, informed this correspondent that the district administration has requested the State government to send additional forces to be deployed in the sensitive areas in the adjoining Karbi Anglong to get a hold of the militant�s activities.
