One held for issuing fake registration cards of vehicles

JORHAT, June 24 - A Golaghat police team on Sunday busted a racket reportedly involved in making fake registration cards of vehicles and supplying to vehicle-lifters.

The man believed to be the kingpin of issuing fake smart cards was arrested from Jorhat after several false cards were recovered from his shop at Unnayan Market building, which houses the Jorhat Municipal Board office besides the AT Road here.

According to a police source, Arup Baruah, a resident of Kakajan outskirts here who owns a shop in the Unnayan Market, was brought from his residence to the shop and a search was carried out in the shop.

During the search several fake registration cards were recovered, which were allegedly kept ready to be supplied to two-wheeler thieves, the source stated.

The source said that information about Baruah reportedly running a racket that supplies fake registration cards to vehicle thieves came to light after Golaghat Police two days back arrested three vehicle-lifters from Dergaon and seized 2 two-wheelers from them and also a few registration cards of vehicles.

During investigation, police found that the registration cards recovered from the accused persons were fake and from further interrogation the name of Baruah came up, the source added.
