One held for cheating people over MBBS admissions

JORABAT, April 20 - Khetri police arrested a fraud late Sunday evening for allegedly duping people by promising them to get their wards admitted in medical colleges.

According to police, the accused, Ataur Rahman, tried to make quick money by capitalised on the growing demand for medical admissions and cheated many an unsuspecting guardian.

The matter came to light after a complaint was filed by a parent at the Khetri Police Station recently.

Police managed to nab the accused yesterday.

Police said the victim paid Rs 25 lakh to Ataur in several instalments. However, as soon as he got the entire money in his kitty, he kept his phone on the switched-off mode.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Ataur also duped people from Guwahati and Dhubri with the help of some others. Efforts are being made to nab all the people involved in the racket, police added.
