One hacked to death

TURA, Aug 2 - A 67-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by his step-brother suspecting him of practising witchcraft at Wakso Achugre village in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

Police said Samen R Marak (38) killed by his step-brother Nanseng R Marak at around 12.30 pm yesterday.

Police have arrested the accused while he was on his way to surrender before police.

An FIR has been filed at the Bajengdoba Police Station in this connection with Ahendro R Marak, a resident of the village. The victim was brutally hacked by the suspect with a ploughing tool.

�A cognizable case has been registered and the accused was caught near Dinggok Bazaar while he was coming to the police station to surrender,� said Superintendent of Police, NGH, Abraham T Sangma.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the killing was the result of the victim being suspected of practising witchcraft.
