One COVID-19 patient dies at SMCH, Hailakandi death toll 2

HAILAKANDI, June 12 - One COVID-19 positive patient succumbed to the contagious disease, taking the death toll to two in Hailakandi district.

Health authorities here disclosed that one Mangoli Rani Das, 53, a resident of Bakrihawer Part I under Algapur revenue circle, died at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Friday morning. Her son Jhintu Das is also undergoing treatment at SMCH.

The deceased, who was also a cancer patient, had gone to Delhi for treatment along with her son and was in home quarantine. As soon as their swab samples tested positive on June 6, the district administration declared Bakrihower Part I a containment zone.

Another COVID-19 positive patient, Faijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, from Borjurai village under Hailakandi revenue circle, died at SMCH on April 10 last. He had attended the Markaz event at Nizamuddin in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the district recorded 34 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

On Friday, 18 more persons tested positive for novel coronavirus and 16 cases on Thursday, taking the total number of such cases to 110.

SK Roy Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Sudip Chakraborty informed that 47 COVID-19 positive patients are being admitted in the isolation wards while five are in SMCH.

There are currently 71 active cases, which include two deaths. Thirty-nine patients on being cured have been discharged from the civil hospital in Hailakandi, SMCH and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Altogether 1,060 persons are in institutional quarantine while 912 persons in home quarantine in the district.

Of the 3,009 swab samples taken, 1,992 have turned out to be negative. Results of 892 swab samples are being awaited.

The district administration has declared five containment zones to check the spread of COVID-19.
