One arrested for murder of Jorhat homeopathic doctor

JORHAT, Sept 6 - Police today arrested a youth - Diganta Tanti - on charges of murdering a homeopathic intern doctor Rahul Basumatary of the Club Road-based Dr JK Saikia Memorial Homeopathic Medical College on Friday night in a rented house at Chandan Nagar here. It may be mentioned that Dr Basumatary (26) of Udalguri district, on Saturday morning was found lying in a pool of blood inside the first floor of the rented house in Bylane 4 of Chandan Nagar locality by the landlord. The Enfield Bullet motorcycle of the slain doctor was found missing from the compound of the house by the landlord.

A police source stated that Tanti (24), who works as a painter on a daily wage basis, was picked up by police on Saturday night from his house near Tocklai Tea Estate here, and has reportedly confessed to committing the crime.

The source disclosed that the motorcycle, a smartphone and a DSLR camera belonging to Dr Basumatary, which were stolen by Tanti, were recovered today from different places after he admitted to stealing the bike and the gadgets and revealed where he had kept the items hidden.

Regarding the motive behind the murder, the source declined to reveal the exact cause and hinted that the killing was a fallout of a row between Dr Basumatary and Tanti over a relationship issue which was a sensitive matter.
