TEZPUR, Nov 22 - A tense situation has been prevailing in Tezpur town following the gruesome killing of an aged couple by miscreants at Patiachuburi area under Kacharigaon police outpost here. According to police, Braiyan Arij (84) originally an American citizen, after getting Indian citizenship, married Asha Arij (65) of Dehradun. Due to service-related reasons, he was posted to Tezpur under Project Vartak of the Union Ministry of Defence.
After his retirement, Braiyan with his family settled at Patiachuburi area in Tezpur town and had two daughters who live in Delhi and Pune respectively. As the aged couple lived in Patiachuburi area for over 30 years, a bonhomie developed between the couple with people of the locality. However, as the neighbours did not see the old couple for around 24 hours, suspecting something unnatural, the former informed the police. Police subsequently rushed to the spot last night and discovered the bodies of the couple in two different rooms in pools of blood.
Additional Superintendent of Police Numal Mahhatta said that investigation is on and the culprits involved with the incident will soon be booked.
�The old couple was murdered in cold blood only with the intention of robbery.� Mahhatta said, adding the two bodies were sent to Kanaklata Civil Hospital for post mortem.
In the meantime, Sonia Gill, a family settled in Tezpur and closely attached to the unfortunate Arij family demanded prompt apprehension of the culprits involved in the gruesome crime and awarding of exemplary punishment to those guilty.
