Old-age home opened at Nalbari

NALBARI, Sept 14 � A newly constructed old-age home was formally inaugurated at Dhekiabari in Nalbari district yesterday.

The Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, Dr Om Prakash inaugurated the new old-age home called Shanti Nivas Bridhyashram at a brief function held on the occasion. The old- age home was constructed under the initiative of Mazibur Rahman and Mahendra Baishya for the aged persons who have been deserted by their family members.

Inaugurating the new institution, the Deputy Commissioner said that the concept of constructing old-age homes is not encouraging for a society, but at the same time we cannot ignore the miseries of those senior citizens who are deserted by their family members during the evening of their lives. He was hopeful that the new institution will provide much-needed shelter and an address to such persons.

He assured all possible help to the new institution from the district administration�s side. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya, former president of Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha and was addressed among others by renowned critic Shashi Sarma, Nalbari Superintendent of Police, Pradip Ranjan Kar .

Earlier, Mazibur Rahman explained the manifold purposes of establishing the old-age home in the district.
