Oil well blockade temporarily withdrawn

DOOMDOOMA, Dec 24 - In protest against the proposed privatisation of oil wells of the State, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) announced a 100-hour blockade of the oil wells of Oil India Limited (OIL) across the State from this morning.

Members of the Tinsukia district committee of the AJYCP blocked oil wells situated at Baghjan, Makum, Aroimuria and Matiekhona in Tinsukia district in the morning.

Later, the OIL authorities from Duliajan invited the district committee leaders for a meeting. In the meeting, the OIL authorities informed the youth leaders that the company would clear its stand on January 3 and till then, it urged the youth body to suspend its blockade. Responding to the OIL authority�s request, the AJYCP temporarily suspended the protest.

In a press note, AJYCP Tinsukia district committee president Surajit Moran and acting secretary Kanchan Bora made it clear that if the government did not withdraw its decision of privatisation of oil wells of the State, they would again start an agitation.
