OIL table tennis players felicitated

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - Oil India Limited (OIL) felicitated its table tennis players who performed creditably in the international tournaments in recent years in a brief function held here today.

Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of OIL Utpal Bora honoured Mouma Das, who has been national champion for several years and won gold medal in the Gold Cost Commonwealth Games this year, Suchitra Mukherjee (both from Bengal) and Trisha Gogoi for their encouraging show in the international championships. The OIL CMD also felicitated Arjuna awardee Monalisa Baruah Mehta and Tridib Duvarah who were coach and manager of the Indian teams. Monalisa was the coach of the Indian school TT team in which Trisha was a member and won a gold medal. Tridib was the manager of the Indian TT team in the South Asian Games which won several medals in the last edition held in Shillong.

Mouma was handed over a cheque of Rs 3.5 lakh while Trisha received a cheque of Rs 1.4 lakh. Suchitra got Rs 1 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion Bora said that OIL has been promoting sports since its early days. �We are committed for the development of sports in the State and we are promoting sports like football, cricket, table tennis among others.� He also revealed that as per the announcement made earlier, OIL will present Rs 20 lakh to golden girl Hima Das. �As she will be in Assam, the cheque will be handed over to Hima,� Bora said.

Senior OIL officers Arunjyoti Baruah, GM (Admin), who is also an international TT player, Krishna Kinkor Deka, along with a host of OIL officials were also present on the occasion.
