OIL resolves to construct school toilets

DULIAJAN, Oct 5 � Oil India Limited too joined the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Government of India on October 2 by organising a mass awareness programme at the Nehru Maidan Duliajan here by identifying a few schools in its operating areas in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts which are without toilets under Swachh Vidyalaya Programme.

As a part of the campaign, a pledge-taking ceremony and a walkathon were organised here at Nehru Maidan, which was ceremoniously flagged off by OIL Chairman-cum-Managing Director SK Srivastava along with other senior officials of the Navaratna company. A symbolic cleaning drive was also organised, stated an OIL press communiqu�.

Oil India Limited has resolved to construct toilets in schools situated in its operational areas under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

OIL CMD Srivastava along with Puru Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia and officials from the district administration and OIL ceremoniously laid the foundation stone of a toilet at Senairam HS School at Tinsukia.

Simultaneously, foundations were also laid ceremoniously in five other schools, namely Madhuting Lower Primary School, Dibrugarh, Jutlibari Tea Estate Lower Primary School, Dibrugarh, No.1 Bokuloni Lower Primary School, Dibrugarh, Bahadur Tea Estate Lower Primary School, Tinsukia and Tinsukia Railway Higher Secondary School, Tinsukia.

The functions were attended by OIL officials, representatives of union (OGEU) and association (OIEEA), school principals, teachers and students. The programme ended with distribution of sweets among the students.

As a part of the awareness generation programme and mass movement on cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, OIL launched a 100-hour campaign starting from October 2. Under the campaign, OIL aims to spread awareness about cleanliness by publishing advertisements in newspapers, display of banners/posters in all its installations, offices, operational areas and townships, by organising physical cleanliness drive, insecticide spray in and around OIL townships, cleaning and installation of garbage bins, discussions and interactive sessions on the importance and adoption of cleanliness in schools.
