OIL registers record in crude production

DULIAJAN, Sept 6 � Nation�s second largest oil company, Oil India Limited,a Navaratna PSU achieved yet another milestone by producing 10000 MT crude oil per day, which is equivalent to 3.65 MTPA on August 15, this year, the day, the nation was celebrating the 64th Independence day.

Oil India�s crude oil production was 3.1 MMT in 2007-08. However, in subsequent years Company could achieve significant growth in crude oil production due to a few strategic initiatives introduced in the fourth quarter of the year 2007-08, and enabled the Company to register around 15 per cent increase in production on last two years. The company produced 3.572 MMT of crude oil during the year 2009-10, which was the highest ever production in its history.

In a press communiqu�, the PSU stated about the increasing trend in production that has resulted from strategic initiatives like improved IOR/EOR practices, systematic management of reservoirs, streamlining of the bottle necks in surface facilities like commissioning of Barekuri � Makum crude oil pipeline etc. and technology induction in well completion. The state of the art horizontal well completion not only increased per well productivity but also cut down land requirement for drilling conventional wells in some selective areas. Moreover, discovery of oil in a few more structures in the vicinities of existing fields ensured continuing uptrend in crude oil production.

While efforts are on to enhance crude oil production, the Company has also laid great emphasis on its efforts to enhance production of natural gas. With increase in the demand of natural gas from new customers like the Assam Accord project, Brahmaputra Polymer and Cracker Limited (BCPL), Numaligarh Refinery Limited and interest shown by relatively smaller entrepreneurs desiring to set up gas based ancillary industries in and around upper Assam, OIL contemplate to increase its current level of natural gas production, which is around 6.4 MMSCUMD to the level of 10 MMSCUMD within the next few years.

Besides the Company expressed its indebtness to the people and different organizations in general and those of the operational areas in particular for extending their support to OIL in carrying out uninterrupted operations and the support from the district administrations and various government agencies. While OIL reaffirms its commitment to supply the feed stock to BCPL and play a vital role in ensuring that the long awaited Gas Cracker Project becomes a vibrant reality, the Company seeks the support of people and organizations in creating an conducive environment for carrying out uninterrupted operational activities, ensuring at all times that the work in progress is not hampered in overall interest of the stakeholders which is essential for enabling the developmental initiatives to progress at a rapid pace.
