OIL provides Rs 1 lakh aid to Gilbertson

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, June 8 Oil India Limited (OIL) has given Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to former international footballer Gilbertson Sangma for his treatment. Sangma recently underwent a spinal cord surgery at Apollo Hospital, Chennai.

Handing over the cheque, Director HRBD of OIL NK Bharali said, although it does not come under OILs sports policy to offer financial assistance to any sportsperson for treatment, considering Sangmas contribution to Assam football as a player, they are coming forward to help him at this crucial time. Bharali recalled Sangmas ability on the field when he had been on duty for the Assam Police team in Bordoloi Trophy and Independence Day Cup. The OIL officer also mentioned about their effort in developing sports in the State, particularly in the rural areas. He hoped Sangma will recover soon.

VK Verma, Head Sports and ER revealed that Sangma had helped OIL in preparing its football team although he was not their player. Verma said OIL will always encourage sportspersons in the North-east. He also thanked Assam Football Association for taking the initiative in this regard.

Tridib Duvarah, Manager (PR & Co-ord) said it was only due to NK Bharali that it was possible to provide financial assistance to the former international footballer who supported OIL in building its football team.

Thanking OIL for its support, Sangma said he is grateful to the OIL officials. He also thanked State Ministers Rockybul Hussain, Ajit Singh, AASU, Gauhati Town Club and his well-wishers who supported him in his crucial time. He also hoped that he will be back again fit and fine. Oil officials Ranjit Saikia (GM HR), Tapan Duarah (GM pipeline services) were also present.
