Oil India FC lift ATPA Shield

JORHAT, Oct 31 � Oil India Football Club, Duliajan emerged winners in the ATPA Shield Football Tournament. It was Oil�s 11th title in this premier football tournament of the State.

In the final played at the Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA) Stadium here on Friday, the Duliajan boys made clear supremacy on Assam Rifles Soccer Team and fetched a deserving 3-1 victory.

Oil went ahead in the 28th minute through Mintu Boro. After the break Taurus Tecompheh enhanced the margin in the 48th minute.

The Riflemen tried to comeback to the game by reducing the margin in the 76th minute. M Chetry made good use of a goal-mouth melee and hit the back of the net. But the Assam Rifles players could not capitalise of the reducer as their jubilation was cut short after six minute when Kehinde Edris Olayinka fired home to give the Oil team 3-1 lead.

The second half of the match witnessed some exciting moments as both the teams put valiant efforts to break into opponents� territory. However, the Duliajan boys were more accurate in initiating tactical moves. SAI Guwahati team received the Puneswar Kachari Fair Play Trophy while F Wary of Oil received the Tolen Saikia Trophy after being chosen as the best player. Assam Rifles team was handed over the Dr Aruneswar Sarma Trophy.

In the closing function local MLA and the president of JDSA Rana Goswami, ATPA president Raj Barooah and others gave away the trophies to the teams and the individuals.
