Oil India down Barak, 3 Star hold Lajong

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - Oil India FC, Duliajan registered a convincing 3-0 win against Barak FC while Shillong Lajong FC had to settle for a 1-1 draw against 3 Star Club, Nepal in todays matches of the 64th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament, co-sponsored by The Assam Tribune at the Nehru Stadium here.

Oil India came close to breaking the deadlock early in the fourth minute but Nabin Rabhas spot kick failed to produce the desired result. Barak custodian James did well enough to deny the Duliajan outfit their lead.

However, it didnt take much long for Oil India to surge ahead as Jayanta Basumatary found the back of the net in the sixth minute. Receiving a pass from Mintu Boro in the midfield, Basumatary did well enough to make his way past a Barak defender before getting the better of James.

The Nagaland side came close to finding the equaliser in the 15th minute but Oil India glovesman Nihal Das did a fantastic job to deny Baraks Nzauhut in a one-on-one situation.

Switching sides, Oil India dominated the proceedings throughout the second half. Having received a pass from Sunil Murmu in the left flank, Mintu Boro provided the perfect finishing to increase the lead in the 50th minute.

Mintu Boro went on to ensure his brace with a gentle push in the 78th minute. Left unmarked, Boro took full advantage of the situation after receiving a pass from Jayanta Basumatary.

In the other match, Milan Basumatary gave Shillong Lajong the lead in the 27th minute while Niranjan Khadka of 3 Star Club drew parity in the 61st minute. Earlier, Bimal Gharti Magor of 3 Star club missed a penalty in the 34th minute.
