OIL champions in Amba Medhi soccer

Mangaldai Sept 18 � Two time champion Oil India Limited (OIL) Football Club, Duliajan, lifted the 35th Amba Medhi memorial trophy defeating Rhino Football Club, Golaghat, here today.

In the final played at the Mangaldai stadium Oil recorded a 2-0 win over the young Golaghat side.

After a barren first half Nigerian player TT Manneh fired the first salvo for the Oil in the 52nd minute. Just five minutes before the final whistle, Oil was awarded a direct free kick outside the penalty box and Hmar gave no chance for the Rhino custodian to react taking their team to 2-0.

Jyotish Basumatary of Oil was awarded the Vidya Ram Medhi Memorial Trophy for the best player of the final while his teammate Sudipta Banerjee was adjudged as the best goalkeeper.

Oil bagged the Amba Medhi Memorial Trophy along with a cash award of Rs 30,000 while Rhino FC collected the Ratneswar Kataki memorial runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000. Basanta Das, Minister, Fishery , MS Manivannan, Deputy Commissioner Darrang and Ankuran Dutta, General Secretary Assam Football Association gave away the prizes to winners.
