OIL announces Rs 20 lakh for Hima

GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - The Oil India Limited (OIL) has announced a cash incentive of Rs 20 lakh to the new sprint sensation Hima Das for her starling performance in the international track.

OIL CMD Utpal Bora, announcing the reward, said in a press conference here today that after winning the 400m race in the recently held IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championship in Finland, it is our responsibility to encourage the young girl of our State. �Hima is now out side the country and as soon as she will return we will hand over the cheque of Rs 20 lakh to her,� said the OIL CMD.

When asked, whether OIL can appoint a personnel coach for Hima, the CMD said that it will be too much expensive and it may not be possible for OIL alone. �If some other organisations initiate the move we can support,� he said.

He further said that the company has been encouraging the sportspersons and they have a good football team comprising players mostly from the State. �Recently we have adopted 5 footballers, 3 TT players, 1 badminton player and 1 golfer,� Bora added.

Chief Manager Administration, Public Relation and Co-ordination Tridib Duvarah said that the oil companies promote sportspersons according to the events which have been recognised by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. �The events which are conducted by the PSPB in the inter unit championships, OIL adopt sportspersons of those events only,� Duvarah said.

CGM OIL Samir Kumar Das, Director, Centre for Social Responsibility Leadership SK Sahi, GM Administration and former international TT player Arunjyoi Baruah, Dy GM KK Deka were also present in the press conference.
