GUWAHATI, July 28 - A team of government officials comprising Manik Chandra Sarma, Managing Director, ATDC Ltd, Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, General Manager (i/c), ATDC Ltd, Paresh Chandra Sarma, Executive Engineer, PWD Building Division-I, Bikramaditya Choudhury, River Surveyor, IWT, Prabhash Sarma, ATDC Ltd., Kishore Dutta, ATDC Ltd along with AN Singh, Deputy General Manager, Gammon India Ltd and artist-sculptor Biren Singha today visited the site of the signature project Installation of Bir Lachit Borphukan Statue in the midst of river Brahmaputra at Machkhowa, Guwahati taken up by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation.

As the water level of the river Brahmaputra is rising, the technical team decided that it would not be smooth and proper to execute the installation work now though the statues are ready. The team felt that the installation work at this juncture would be very risky and possibilities of loss of property and life during the installation process cannot be ruled out.

That apart, the installation of the statue of Bir Lachit, which is 35 feet in height and about 17 tonnes in weight, need very special care and engineering efforts.

The installation would not be proper at this stage when the river is in spate and it will be done accordingly when the water level recedes, felt the technical team felt. This was stated in an official release issued to the press.
